My retirement talk

I gave a talk at work last week on what academic research has to say about the best ways to save for retirement. Because we live in amazing times, I was able to record the presentation and save it on YouTube. Feel free to share it with anyone who might benefit:

The video description is below.
My March staff talk. "Have you thought about your financial future recently? Ever wondered if you're making the most of the University's retirement savings plans? Come to March's brown bag session to learn some principles of successful investing and financial planning, and to find out how the work of people like Gene Fama, Ken French, Richard Thaler, Jack Bogle, and others can make you a millionaire (yes, really, with high probability) by the time you retire."

#1 Save early and often 2:38
#2 Take advantage of savings opportunities 9:23
#3 Know thyself 19:53 (especially the risk tolerance table at 21:45)
#4 Diversify effectively 31:53
#5 Read the fine print 40:59
Recommended reading list 53:50

Turn on annotations to see a few corrections and additional notes.

Disclaimer: this is my interpretation of the literature and outlines the basic retirement investment strategy I'm following, but that doesn't guarantee it will be a good strategy for you! The best investment plan is one tailored to the investor's personality, circumstances, and lifestyle.

    1. Thanks Alex! I had fun doing it. If you're interested in the cliff notes version as a refresher, check out "If You Can" from the reading list, which is one of the things that inspired me to give the talk.
